Former militant shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Assam-Manipur border

A senior police officer who does not want to be named told ET, “Search operation is on. Cachar District Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur has rushed to the site.”

A former militant, who had surrendered, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Chamtilla village along the Assam-Manipur border in Cachar district.

A senior police officer who does not want to be named told ET, “Search operation is on. Cachar District Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur has rushed to the site.”

The officer said, “Armed people came from Manipur and dragged out David Rongmai, 37, from his house and shot him dead on the spot. Rongmai was a cadre of the Naga National Council, a militant outfit, and surrendered to the police last year. We are coordinating with Manipur police”.
