Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh moves Bombay HC to challenge CBI’s FIR

Anil Deshmukh, Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the FIR registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the charges of corruption.

As per the Bombay High Court website, he has approached the court on Monday, May 3, through his lawyer Sonali Jadhav and seeking an interim order to protect him from any ‘coercive action’ by the central investigation agency.

Last month on April 5, Deshmukh had resigned from his post after the court had directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the corruption allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against him.


The division bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Pitale is likely to hear the matter this week.

During the inquiry by the CBI, Deshmukh denied the allegations raised against him by Singh during questioning and told the officers that they were an attempt to malign the image of the state government, reported PTI last month.

On April 21, the CBI had registered an FIR against the Deshmukh under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act that deals with illegal gratification obtained by a public servant.

Both Deshmukh and his party, the Nationalist Congress Party, have refuted the allegations.

The court had directed investigation in the clutch of petitions including three PILs, including the one filed by Param Bir Singh, and two writ petitions seeking CBI investigation into the matter.

Singh, after he was removed as the city police chief, alleged in a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray that Deshmukh had instructed suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Waze and some other police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from bars, restaurants and other places.
