Basumatary, was former Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA from Mushalpur constituency. Two other persons were also arrested along with him.
A senior police officer, who did not want to be named, said, “Police seized one AK series rifle with over 130 rounds and one M-16 rifle with around 10 live rounds. We are looking if these were meant to form a new militant outfit.”
He said, “We have some information that Basumatary was trying to recruit for his new outfit.”
A new Bodo militant outfit in the name and style of ULB was formed on 15 September 2021, all the cadres of the outfit surrendered on 29 September 2021 due to proactive actions of the police.
The Government of India on January 27, 2020 inked a pact with four factions of NDFB.
