A 26-year-old woman from Muradnagar has filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws, alleging harassment, dowry demands, and forced miscarriage. Police said the woman approached a mahila thana earlier this week. The couple married in March this year.

In her complaint, the woman said her husband, a 28-year-old physical education teacher from Meerut, pressured her to look like Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi. She alleged that he forced her to spend three hours daily in the gym and stopped her from eating if she missed workouts. She said he repeatedly taunted her appearance and told her that his life was ruined because he could have married someone who looked like Fatehi.

Dowry claims

The woman said her family had gifted her husband a Mahindra Scorpio, cash, jewellery, and spent nearly Rs 75 lakh on wedding ceremonies. Despite this, she alleged that her in-laws continued to harass her for more dowry.

The woman also alleged that her husband gave her an abortion pill without her knowledge. "Two months ago, I found out that I was pregnant. I shared this with my mother-in-law, who showed no interest. One day, my husband gave me a pill, which I later researched online and discovered was used for abortions," she said in her complaint.

She added that her health worsened after consuming the pill, and her in-laws dropped her at her parents’ home. Later, when her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to a hospital where doctors confirmed a miscarriage.

Not allowed to return home

According to the woman, her in-laws stopped her from entering their home in Muradnagar in July. She then decided to approach police this week.

DCP Dhawal Jaiswal said on Wednesday that police have registered an FIR against the woman’s husband and his parents under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for dowry harassment, intentional humiliation, and abortion.
"The investigation is underway and police are checking all the allegations," the DCP said.
