Guwahati: Flood situation in Assam has improved, with only five districts in the state reeling under flood now. Pre monsoon flooding had affected a large part of Assam.

The death toll in the present wave of flood has reached 38 with five people died in landslides and rest in floods.

Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in Cachar, Dima Hasao and Udalguri. On Tuesday, nearly 1.77 lakh people were reeling under floods. Around 305 villages are underwater and 13,508.25 hectares of crop areas have been damaged.


To give relief to flood and landslide affected families and immediate restoration of different sectors in Dima Hasao district, the State government has announced an immediate package of Rs. 50 crores.

Under this package, Rs. 30 crores will be provided for immediate reconstruction of critical roads. On the other hand, the state government will provide Rs. 2 lakhs each to 590 families to reconstruct their damaged houses. A total amount of Rs. 11.80 crore will be allocated for this purpose. Out of the total restoration package, Rs. 23 crores will be provided from SDRF and Rs. 27 crores from SOPD.

The decision on the restoration package was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma which was held to discuss the restoration of Dima Hasao district. The Chief Minister also stressed on immediate steps for restoration of the critical sectors.
