The first Cabinet meeting at Seva Teerth is being seen as both a symbolic and administrative milestone, formally initiating high-level decision-making from the new premises.

What is Seva Teerth?

Seva Teerth is the newly constructed office complex that houses the PMO and key administrative bodies. It is part of the Central Vista redevelopment project aimed at modernising India’s government infrastructure.

Why it was built

For decades, several ministries functioned from ageing colonial-era buildings such as North Block and South Block, as well as multiple rented offices across Delhi. This dispersion led to coordination challenges, high rental expenditure and logistical inefficiencies.

The new complexes aim to consolidate offices, improve inter-ministerial coordination, reduce costs and provide modern, technology-enabled workspaces.

Significance and what it reflects

The government has positioned Seva Teerth as a symbol of citizen-centric governance. The name underscores the emphasis on “seva” (service), reflecting the Prime Minister’s assertion that governance should be rooted in responsibility rather than authority.

The complex also reflects an effort to move away from colonial-era administrative symbols while creating sustainable, future-ready infrastructure. Built in accordance with 4-Star GRIHA standards, the buildings incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation measures and advanced security frameworks.

With today’s Cabinet meeting, Seva Teerth transitions from inauguration to active governance, becoming the new hub of executive decision-making aligned with the vision of “Developed India 2047.”
