The government will likely release the results of India's first dedicated and comprehensive survey on 'Ayush', or traditional systems of medicine, by the end of this year, ET has learnt.

Data collection for the survey, which started last year in July, is nearly complete, and the results will take 4-5 months to be compiled, sources indicated.

Ayush is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.

"Earlier, it used to take around a year to compile results; we will be able to do it faster this time," an official said, adding that collection using computer-assisted personal interviews will help cut short the processing time.

The survey will be the first detailed study in the country to get an idea about awareness and penetration of Ayush systems besides the expenditure incurred on Ayush treatments. The ministry of statistics and programme implementation included a full-fledged Ayush survey in the 79th round of the National Sample Survey.
