Fire at landfill site
A fire at a Bhalswa landfill site in north Delhi raged for nearly a day, and efforts to douse it were continuing on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire started Tuesday
The fire broke out at the landfill site on Tuesday. The fire department received information about the blaze around 5.47 pm following which 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Locals complain of breathing problems
People who live near the Bhalswa dump yard complained of breathing problems, reported ANI. There was a dense plume of smoke going up into the sky.

Heat and dust in hot summer
Other residents complained that the smoke and dust and heat - in peak summer - is causing problems for their eyes.

Firefighters said initially there was only smoke when the alert was sounded, but later when a wind blew a fire started raging.

The effort was to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby residential areas, Delhi Fire Service officials said.

Earlier this year, three incidents of fire were reported at east Delhi's Ghazipur landfill site. The one on March 28 was doused only after over 50 hours.
