A fire broke out at a residential building in Delhi's New Friends Colony on Sunday afternoon, prompting a rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services, ANI reported on Sunday.

The fire department received a call about the blaze at around 3:40 p.m. and dispatched two fire tenders to the spot.

Firefighters launched efforts to evacuate residents after initial reports suggested that several people could be trapped inside the house.

In a subsequent update, Delhi Police clarified that preliminary reports indicated no one else had been injured in the incident and said earlier reports about the death of a child were incorrect.

"Reports of the death of a child are incorrect. Further details will be shared shortly," Delhi Police said.

Rescue operations were continuing at the time of filing. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
