The Thane city police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against seven individuals, including former Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pandey, for alleged irregularities and extortion. The FIR follows a complaint by Mumbai businessman Sanjay Punamiya, who claimed to have been harassed by the accused between May 2021 and June 30, 2024.

The FIR names former DGP Sanjay Pandey, retired ACP Sardar Patil, PI Manohar Patil, and other individuals including Advocate Shekar Jagtap, Shyamsunder Agrawal, Subham Agrawal, and Sharad Agrawal. Punamiya alleges that the accused reopened a 2016 crime case from the Thane Nagar police unlawfully. He also accused them of threatening him and other businessmen with false cases, extorting money, and fabricating documents while pretending to be a Special Public Prosecutor.

The FIR includes various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These charges include Section 166(a) for misconduct by a public servant, Section 170 for impersonation, Section 120B for criminal conspiracy, Section 193 for providing false evidence, and additional sections related to forgery, extortion, and criminal intimidation.

The Thane police are currently investigating the allegations.
