Gujarat Police arrested filmmaker Avinash Das on Tuesday from Mumbai for sharing a photograph of Union home minister Amit Shah with arrested IAS officer of Jharkhand, Puja Singhal, on social media.

Assistant police commissioner of Ahmedabad Crime Branch, DP Chudasma, told the media that Das was picked up from Mumbai and was being brought to Ahmedabad for "legal process".

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch had registered an FIR against the 46-year-old filmmaker in June after he posted a photograph of former mining secretary of Jharkhand, Puja Singhal, with Shah. Singhal has been arrested under PMLA.

The FIR against Das has been filed under Section 469 (forgery) of IPC as well as provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Information Technology Act. Das has also reportedly posted a morphed picture of a woman wearing the national flag on his social media, thereby insulting the national flag.
