Father throws kid into river
A four-year-old boy lost his life after his father allegedly threw him into the Yamuna river in Firozabad following a domestic dispute, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday evening in the Basai Mohammadpur police station area, where the accused also jumped into the river but was rescued. Police identified the accused as Triloki and the child as Anand. According to officials, the man reached Shankarpur ghat with his son and allegedly pushed him into the river before leaping in himself.

People working in nearby fields noticed the incident and managed to pull Triloki out of the water. However, the child could not be found immediately.

After being alerted, police launched a search operation with the help of local divers. The boy’s body was later recovered from downstream.

Station House Officer Kripal Singh said preliminary investigation suggests that the man took the extreme step in a fit of rage following a domestic dispute.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway, he said.

Police said the couple, who had a love marriage about 10 years ago, have two daughters aged seven and five. They had approached the LMD Colony police station two weeks ago over marital differences.

The woman had alleged that her husband had manhandled her in recent times. On Tuesday, she came to the police station with both children.

During counselling, she removed her mangala sutram and toe rings and placed them on the Inspector’s table before walking out. The husband also left shortly after, without taking the children along, police said.

"We tried to reach them on their mobile phones, but of no use," a police official said.

With both parents unreachable, police later handed over the children to their grandparents.
