The Supreme Court on Thursday commented adversely on farmers blocking roads indefinitely to protest the farm laws of the central government and said that the solution to the problem lay elsewhere.

"Redressal can be through judicial fora, agitation or parliamentary debates," Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul observed while dealing with a plea of a Noida resident who has claimed that her commute took longer due to the agitation spilling over to the roads.

Justice M M Sundresh, the other judge on the bench, reminded the government of its duties on this front, citing the top court's ruling in a similar case on Shaheen Bagh sit-in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

The court had then ruled that public spaces cannot be occupied indefinitely for protests.
