Family members on Thursday met nine arrested pro-Khalistan members of 'Waris Punjab De' in Dibrugarh central jail in Assam.

Family members of radical preacher Amritpal Singh have sought permission to see Amritpal however necessary permission is yet to be given.

A senior official who does not want to be named told ET, “Amritpal is still under interrogation and hence permission to see him will take some time.”


Along with Amritpal, nine pro-Khalistan members of 'Waris Punjab De' were lodged in Dibrugarh jail. Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla are lodged at Dibrugarh Central Jail.

The family members of nine detainees have visited Dibrugarh Central jail to meet them on Thursday. The family members were led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive member and legal counsel advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka.

Legal counsel of Daljit Singh Kalsi and Papalpreet Singh advocate Simranjit Singh also arrived separately along with Daljit Kalsi's son.

Bhagwant Singh Sialka told media persons in Dibrugarh, "We have come to meet the family members. We have got permission from the Amritsar District magistrate to meet the members in Dibrugarh jail. We will have challenged them in Punjab High Court,".

Simranjit Singh said, "The National Security Act (NSA) slapped on them without any reason. We will have challenged it in the Punjab High Court. NSA will be scrapped and they will come out of jail. It was a conspiracy to slap NSA on them because it was a draconian law,".

He added, "We will fight for NSA which was slapped on them and they were brought to Dibrugarh jail which was over 3000 kms from Punjab. We will fight the legal battle in court.”
