Srinagar: A woman lawyer allegedly hired an aide to plant a fake improvised explosive device at her former husband's residence to ensure he goes to jail on terrorism charges for a long time, J&K Police said on Monday.

The accused, advocate Rahila Qadri, conspired with her current husband, advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat from Pandithpora area of Tangmarg, to exact revenge on her former husband, it said. The police identified the mule who planted the IED at the victim Manzoor Ahmad Khan's house in Ferozpur of Tangmarg as Sajad Ahmed Ganie of Sumbal of Bandipora.

"Due to a long-standing matrimonial feud, Qadri harboured deep grudges against her ex-husband and orchestrated this conspiracy to frame him. Ganie also deliberately provided false information to police after planting the fake IED, in an attempt to implicate the house owner in a fabricated recovery case," the police said.

It said that in pursuance of relevant sections of law, notices have been served to all three accused persons. "The case will be taken to its logical conclusion before the competent court of law," the police said.

Providing details about the incident, it said that on July 31 the police in Tangmarg received an input regarding an IED in the house of Khan in Ferozpora area, allegedly concealed within the premises of his house.

The police, in collaboration with security agencies, launched a cordon and search operation during which a suspicious package was found near the main gate of the house. A bomb disposal squad was immediately summoned and upon inspection, the package was found to contain a plastic box designed to resemble an IED.
