Fake government ID, gun: 2 held after forced entry at Mumbai's Jio World Plaza; no connection to PM Modi's event, say Police

Two men arrested for allegedly entering Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with a firearm and a fake PMO identity card have been sent to police custody till September 11, according to the latest update.

Three men allegedly used a suspicious government identity card and forced their way past mall security while carrying a firearm to enter the shopping mall, police said.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the BKC police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions relating to impersonation of a public servant and unlawful entry while armed with a weapon.

The police said the incident took place on Monday and has no connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai on Tuesday.

The weapon recovered during the incident has been found to be licensed, police said. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.

The incident had initially raised security concerns as Jio World Plaza is located in BKC, where Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend an event. However, police clarified that there is no link between the incident on Monday and the Prime Minister’s visit on Tuesday.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting further investigation into the case, including the circumstances under which the accused allegedly used the suspicious government identity card to gain entry into the premises.
