In a post on microblogging site X, Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh said the blast occurred around 12:04 AM and said this incident “in a civilian area within a high-security zone raises serious questions about the law-and-order situation in Imphal”.
Meanwhile, security forces dismantled multiple illegal bunkers in Manipur’s Ukhrul district following a fresh spate of exchanges of fire between armed groups from two communities, a police official in Imphal said. At least three people, including a woman, were injured in the gunfight.
Security forces launched the operations in response to escalating tensions between villagers of the Kuki and Tangkhul Naga groups near Litan Sareikhong in Ukhrul district.
Clashes between the two communities in February had resulted in the burning of more than 30 houses. Firing incidents have been reported in several villages, including Mongkot Chepu and Sharkaphung, over the past two months.
Security forces on Tuesday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from Tingkhai Khullen and Nepali Khutti areas in Kangpokpi district.
