Amaravati: A team of experts from the US and Canada visited the site of Polavaram project on Sunday to study the damages caused to the mega irrigation project built across Godavari river and suggest remedial measures.

According to a TDP release, the state government has taken the assistance of these foreign experts in the water resources sector as the prevailing situation is such that the actual loss to the project caused in the past five years due to the faulty decisions of the previous government could not be assessed.

The experts held talks with Central Water Resources Department officials in New Delhi and reached Rajahmundry on Saturday night. Following a meeting with state officials on Sunday, they inspected the project site, diaphragm wall, two coffer dams and the guide bund.

The experts are expected to stay at Polavaram till July 3 for undertaking detailed analysis of the project design, current situation and ongoing works. Later, they will again hold review meetings with Central officials and the representatives of the construction companies. While releasing a white paper on the state of Polavaram Project, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently said foreign experts will conduct studies on it.
