This will be Leyen's first official visit to India since she was re-elected President of the EU Commission in 2024.
The announcement, made on social media platform X, comes at the time when the world is bracing for US tariffs.
"EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to visit New Delhi on Feb 27-28 with the College of Commissioners! This unprecedented visit highlights the growing momentum in ties —stay tuned," EU in India, European Union's official delegation page for India and Bhutan, wrote on X.
India-EU set to resume FTA talks
India and the European Union are set to resume talks on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) from March 10 to 14, according to a senior government official.Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, L Satya Srinivas, had earlier confirmed that the entire delegation of the European Commission will be in India from February 28 ahead of the upcoming discussions.
In the days leading up to the European Commission's visit, UK Minister of State for Trade Policy, Douglas Alexander, will be in India for a meeting with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on February 24.
On February 25, officials from India and the UK will resume talks on their own free trade agreement.
"We have taken stock of where we left in the last round (14th) and will take it forward during the visit," Satya Srinivas was quoted as saying.
India and the UK have already completed 14 rounds of negotiations on the FTA since its launch in January 2022.
