The incident, which occurred in the snow-covered region popular for its scenic winter views, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.

Bystanders acted swiftly, using bamboo sticks to rescue the tourists from the icy waters. The viral video shows four individuals, including two women, stuck in the frozen lake. All of them called for help and were rescued one by one. Authorities have reiterated the importance of following safety guidelines during visits to such challenging terrains.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the need for caution when exploring snow-covered areas. “At Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh. My advice to tourists: Walk on the Frozen Lakes with experienced people, drive carefully on slippery snow roads and be aware of snow avalanche. Temperatures is freezing so wear warm clothes and enjoy. Your safety is important,” Rijiju stated.
