New Delhi: India sought to strengthen its comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE, with foreign minister S Jaishankar meeting senior leaders of the Gulf country in the backdrop of the West Asian situation.

Jaishankar met UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, thanking him for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the Indian community during the conflict. He conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed ways to further deepen ties.

The visit came amid a flux in regional dynamics and major disruptions in global supply chains. While the UAE is a vital pillar of India's Gulf strategy, relations with Iran are equally important.

During the visit, Jaishankar also met UAE defence minister Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, reiterating India's gratitude for the UAE's support to Indians, particularly in Dubai. He also held talks with UAE deputy PM and foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where the two sides reviewed the evolving regional situation.
