The last three years have battered various sectors of the Indian economy, some more than others, but the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been felt across the board. 2023 holds out the promise of not just a recovery, but a rebound, due to a combination of latent demand and policy reforms.

ET has invited a galaxy of experts to share their perspectives on the potential that can be unleashed in some key sectors. Ridham Desai of Morgan Stanley feels policies put in place during the pandemic have set the stage for India to become the third-largest economy in the world by end of the decade. A caveat from NCAER’s Poonam Gupta is that the country needs to make sure it’s insulated from further similar global shocks.

Key to the economy of the future they describe are emerging sectors such as edtech, renewable power and space technology, as well as aviation, which is set to soar, as civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says, after grinding to a halt during the Covid lockdowns. Human capital will also be key — whether it’s the benefit of a diversifying workforce, or a public health system that has learned from the crisis and emerged stronger.

As all these growth trends gain strength, philanthropist Rohini Nilekani calls on the wealthy to give back, but also to support giving back of service via the growing interest in volunteerism.

We hope our readers will be engaged and inspired by these shared dreams, and wish them all a Happy New Year.
