Embassy of Iran in India rejected claims that the country is charging $2 million from vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Middle East war.

"In response to certain claims regarding the alleged receipt of a sum of 2 million dollars by the Islamic Republic of Iran from vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, it is emphasized that such claims are unfounded," it said in a statement.

The clarification comes after several media reports cited Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi saying Iran is charging some merchant vessels $2 million to allow passage through the conflict-hit Hormuz.

"The statements made in this regard merely reflect the personal views of individuals and do not, in any way, represent the official position of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the Embassy said.

This comes at a time when Iran threatened to 'completely' close Strait of Hormuz and hit power plants after Trump late Saturday set a 48-hour deadline to open the strait.

Iran said the key artery for global oil and gas transport would be "completely closed” immediately if the U.S. follows up on President Donald Trump's threat to attack its power plants.

Trump said if Iran didn't open the strait, the U.S. would destroy its “various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”

As a response to Trump's ultimatum, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf wrote on X that if Iran's power plants and infrastructure are targeted, then vital infrastructure across the region — including energy and desalination facilities — would be considered legitimate targets and “irreversibly destroyed.”
