Ttwo power distribution companies will undergo 100 per cent automation of accounting.
To combat electricity theft and reduce losses, the Bihar State Power Holding Company (BSPHCL) will now use artificial intelligence (AI) and other modern applications. As per a ToI report, BSPHCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Sanjeev Hans, chaired a meeting where the decision to leverage AI and other tools to tackle power theft and hold field engineers accountable was taken.

As per the report, by incorporating AI, the company aims to detect electricity theft, streamline energy accounting, and identify consumers involved in illegal practices. The energy accounting pilot projects in Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur have yielded encouraging results, paving the way for further advancements in the field.

As part of their strategy, the Special Task Force (STF) will intensify raids and crackdown on power theft offenders. To enhance transparency and accountability, the company is set to launch the "Raid and FIR Management System" portal from August 1. This portal will provide real-time updates on STF raids and the fines imposed on electricity thieves.

Moreover, the two power distribution companies under BSPHCL, namely South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) and North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL), will undergo 100 per cent automation of accounting. This automation will enable efficient data analysis of consumers' energy consumption patterns, thereby helping to fix accountability for any irregularities.

CMD Sanjeev Hans also commended the energy accounting team and field engineers for their outstanding performance in the domain. With these innovative measures, BSPHCL is determined to reduce AT&C losses and enhance the overall efficiency of their power distribution system, ensuring a more sustainable and reliable electricity supply for the people of Bihar.
