Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated in India on March 21 as crescent moon sighted tonight

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across India on Saturday, March 21, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Friday evening, marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan.

The festival, which signifies the conclusion of the month-long period of fasting, is observed based on the sighting of the crescent moon that signals the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal. As moon sightings vary by location, Eid is celebrated on different days across countries.

This year, Ramzan in India lasted for 30 days, compared to 29 days last year. Under the Islamic lunar calendar, months are determined by the visibility of the moon and typically run for either 29 or 30 days.


During Ramzan, Muslims observe fasting from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from food and drink as part of their religious practice.
