The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee in connection with its ongoing money laundering probe in the teacher's recruitment scandal in West Bengal.

While Abhishek has been asked to appear on October 9, his wife Rujira has been summoned on October 11. It is the first time that the federal agency has summoned Rujira in the recruitment scandal.

Abhishek Banerjee was previously questioned by the federal agency on September 13 for almost nine hours. The case relates to alleged collection of money from candidates for arranging various illegal appointments as primary teachers in West Bengal.

Allegations against Banerjee's father, Amit Banerjee, are that he was one of the directors of Leaps and Bound Pvt Ltd and his wife Rujira was the director of Leap and Bound Management, which diverted money in the scandal.
