KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday submitted a charge sheet before a special court here in alleged money laundering in connection with a multi-crore financial irregularities case at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

One of the main accused in the case, named by ED, is the former principal of the medical college, Sandip Ghosh, who is in judicial custody.

The alleged financial irregularities came to the forefront following the rape and murder of a PGT doctor on the hospital premises in August 2024. Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent at RG Kar Hospital, had petitioned the Calcutta High Court for a CBI investigation into the alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of Ghosh at the hospital.

The ED and the CBI had been conducting parallel probes into the financial irregularities case. The main charges in the case at RG Kar include alleged manipulation of the tendering process, awarding infrastructure contracts to private agencies while bypassing the state Public Works Department, and selling organs from unidentified bodies meant for autopsy.
