The federal agency had initiated a money laundering probe on the basis of an FIR registered by the CBI in August 2017 under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against Jain, his wife Poonam Jain and others. It was alleged that Jain, while posted and functioning as a minister in the Government of Delhi, had acquired disproportionate assets during the period from February 2015 to May 2017. The CBI filed a charge sheet on December 3, 2018, against Jain, Poonam, and others.
As a result of the investigation, the ED had earlier provisionally attached immovable properties worth Rs 4.81 crore belonging to companies beneficially owned and controlled by Jain in March 2022. The agency had also filed a prosecution complaint (equivalent of a charge sheet) in July 2022. The court took cognisance of the same on July 29, 2022.
During ED's investigation, it was revealed that in November 2016, soon after demonetisation, Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain, close associates and alleged benamis of Jain, allegedly deposited ₹7.44 cr in cash in Bank of Baroda, Bhogal branch, as advance tax under the Income Disclosure Scheme (IDS). The agency has further alleged that under IDS, they claimed beneficial ownership of income/assets of Rs 16.53 crore received between 2011-2016 in the accounts of M/s Akinchan Developers Pvt. Ltd, M/s Paryas Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd, M/s Manglayatan Projects Pvt. Ltd, and M/s Indo Metal Impex Pvt. Ltd., whereas these entities were allegedly beneficially owned and controlled by the AAP leader.
The agency further said that the Delhi HC held Ankush and Vaibhav to be benami holders for Satyendar Jain.
