Mitra revealed that the number of special trains has increased from 33 last year to 50 this year, showcasing the railway's commitment to accommodating holiday travellers. "We are running more trains this year than we did last year for this festive season," he stated.
To ensure a smooth travel experience for all passengers, Eastern Railway has prioritised adding more general coaches. Mitra emphasised, "We want everyone to celebrate Diwali and Chhath Puja with their families, and by increasing the number of general coaches, we hope to facilitate that."
Particular attention has been given to routes bound for Delhi, as they see higher passenger traffic during this time. Mitra noted that special trains will be running from Asansol to Patna on November 3rd, 4th, and 5th, exclusively featuring general coaches, with arrival in Patna scheduled for around 8 PM. Additional services are also planned from Malda to Udhna, Howrah to Khatipura, and Asansol to Khatipura, particularly focusing on routes connecting to Delhi.
In parallel, the Western Railway is also enhancing travel options, operating 200 special trains for the Diwali and Chhath Puja season, with around 40 of those managed by the Mumbai Division.
Travellers can look forward to a more accessible and comfortable journey this festive season as both railway zones work to meet the demands of the holiday rush.
