Earthquake hits Afghanistan, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Thursday, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

Earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region on Thursday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said.

The effects of the seismic event were felt as mild tremors in the Delhi-NCR region.



The quake triggered panic among people, with many in Delhi and the National Capital Region reporting shaking of furniture.

The quake jolted parts of Pakistan as well, according to the meteorological department. "The epicenter of the quake was in Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan," the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The earthquake struck at 2:20 pm (local time) in the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 213 kms.
