EAM S Jaishankar to represent India at Trump swearing-in event
External affairs minister S Jaishankar will attend Donald Trump's swearing-in as the 47th US president on January 20. Jaishankar's agenda may include discussions on PM Modi's potential US trip, Trump's visit to India, the upcoming Quad Summit, and...
"During the visit, EAM will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming administration, as also some other dignitaries visiting the US on that occasion," the external affairs ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Jaishankar's agenda may focus on PM Narendra Modi's possible US trip and Trump's India visit, and the Quad Summit that will be hosted by New Delhi. Understandably, there will be discussion on Trump's tariff plans.
This would be Jaishankar's second visit to the US since December. The minister met the outgoing administration and some members of Trump's team during the visit to review ties and discuss agenda with the incoming administration.
Earlier this month, outgoing US national security advisor Jake Sullivan visited New Delhi to review the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and announce new initiatives.
The iCET represents a landmark initiative between the two countries in areas of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotech and defence innovation.
During his speech at IIT Delhi, Sullivan announced that the US was working on removing Indian companies from the list of entities that restrict their access to nuclear tech as the US is taking necessary steps for the implementation of the civil nuclear cooperation with India.
