The minister said discussions with the president reflected the trust, comfort and ambition of the bilateral strategic partnership. France has been a close partner of India and is also a major supplier of weapons, including fighter jets and precision missiles that were used in the strikes against terror targets and the Pakistani Air Force bases last month.
"Honoured to call on President Macron of France. Conveyed greetings of PM Narendra Modi. Thanked him for France's strong message of support in the fight against terrorism," Jaishankar posted on X after the meeting.
The minister will undertake wide-ranging discussions with the top French leadership during his visit and will exchange views on regional and bilateral matters of trade, security and enhancing cooperation.
Prior to arriving in Paris, Jaishankar was in Brussels where he met senior European Union leaders and conveyed India's position on combating terrorism emanating from any source.
Jaishankar also delivered a strong message to Europe on India's zero tolerance policy on terrorism, saying that it is essential to never yield to nuclear blackmail and vowed that India will strike deep into Pakistan to target terrorists if provoked again.
