The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has secured a major victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2025, winning three out of the four central panel posts, including the prestigious post of president. The Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) managed to retain only the vice president’s seat.

The counting took place under heavy security at the Delhi University Sports Centre in North Campus.

ABVP’s Aryan Maan Elected President

ABVP candidate Aryan Maan won the president’s post with a thumping margin, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by 16,196 votes. Celebrating his victory, Maan said he was confident of winning as he had support from students across colleges.

“My first priority will be to fulfil our promise of metro concessional passes for DU students. Apart from that, ensuring that adequate training equipment is provided to all our athletes will be my priority,” he told PTI after the results.

Maan also appealed to his supporters to celebrate peacefully, reminding them of the Delhi High Court order prohibiting victory processions.

NSUI Wins Vice President’s Post

While ABVP swept most of the panel, NSUI candidate Rahul Jhansla won the vice president’s seat with 29,339 votes, defeating ABVP’s Govind Tanwar, who polled 20,547 votes.

In a post on X, NSUI national president Varun Choudhary congratulated Jhansla and said the party had fought against “the combined force of the DU administration, Delhi government, central government, RSS-BJP and Delhi Police.” He added that the NSUI would “only grow stronger” despite the outcome.

ABVP Sweeps Secretary and Joint Secretary

ABVP’s Kunal Chaudhary was elected secretary with 23,779 votes, defeating NSUI’s Kabir. Chaudhary thanked students for their support, promising to stand by them and work for their welfare.

For the joint secretary’s post, ABVP’s Deepika Jha defeated Lavkush Bhadana, receiving 21,825 votes against his 17,380. Overwhelmed with garlands from supporters, Jha expressed gratitude, saying, “I came from Bihar and for the past six years, I have been striving for this moment.”

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA) failed to win any seat in this year’s elections.

Celebration and Reactions

Supporters lifted the ABVP winners on their shoulders, waving the tricolour and chanting slogans in celebration. Maan was seen draped in the national flag, cheered by his backers.

Jha, too, was hailed by her supporters for her victory margin of nearly 4,500 votes.

Meanwhile, the NSUI, which had secured the president’s post in 2024 after a seven-year gap, faced a setback this year, retaining only the vice president’s seat.
