Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate DCP Abhishek Gupta told media persons, "Three persons have been arrested so far. They have been forwarded to court today. Further investigation is on and everything is going according to protocol..." The arrested persons have been identified as Sheikh Reajuddin, Apu Bauri and Firdos Seikh. Police are looking for two others and have started a search in this regard, people in the know said. The forensic department has visited the spot, which is a jungle near the private medical college.
"I urge the state government to take appropriate action on this issue," the student's father said. "My daughter had stepped out with a classmate to get food. The hostel was far away and thus she had come here to eat. The security arrangements are not sufficient. She was gangraped. The classmate abandoned her and fled."
The men allegedly chased away the friend, dragged the student to a forested area behind the campus, and gang-raped her. They also snatched her mobile phone and threw it away. She was admitted to a local hospital.
He said the chief minister and state administration officials have spoken to him.
