Dry fruit seller’s self-immolation turns fatal after family detained in Red Fort blast robe

A dry fruit seller died after setting himself on fire. He was questioned by police with his son and brother in a terror module probe. The seller was released but his son and brother remained in detention. Family members stated he was depressed.

Srinagar: A dry fruit seller, who had set himself on fire after being picked up by police along with his son and brother in connection with the probe into the terror module case involving doctors, succumbed to injuries at a hospital here.

Bilal Ahmad Wani along with his son and brother, who teaches Physics in a school, were picked up for questioning from their village in Qazigund area of south Kashmir. Bilal was released on the same day. But his son and brother remained in detention. Their family members say: "He was depressed and next morning on Sunday he went out in the courtyard of his house and used fuel from their vehicle for self-immolation." His son Jasir Bilal Wani, alias Danish, has now been formally arrested by NIA and named a "key associate" of Dr Umar Nabi, the alleged suicide bomber of the Red Fort blast.
