According to the police, the speeding car first collided with two bikes before changing direction and crashing into three other cars coming from the opposite direction, resulting in injuries to several individuals in the second collision, a TOI report stated.
However, as per a separate ToI report, an eyewitness, Digvijay Velingkar has said that he witnessed the dreadful accident, involving a speeding Mercedes-Benz SUV.
According to Velingkar, the SUV driven by a woman rammed into two cars in front of him. Even 15 minutes after the crash, the woman was still in the driver's seat. When questioned about the incident, she reportedly said, "In an accident, one has to die, and another has to survive, and it is just an accident."
The eyewitness described the SUV as overspeeding and heading towards Panaji. He recounted how the woman first hit a couple on two-wheelers a few meters before the bridge, causing one woman to be flung in the air. The SUV then collided with other vehicles before hitting a pole.
Fortunately, Velingkar's life was spared as his car narrowly avoided being hit, thanks to the SUV hitting the pole first. He mentioned that his car was only one meter away from the struck vehicle.
The police removed the woman from the driver's seat, and Velingkar asserted that she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The woman's husband had already exited the car, while she remained inside. When eventually brought out of the car, she was reportedly in no condition to walk.
Velingkar further stated that once she was out of the car, the woman displayed a defiant attitude and began abusing bystanders, saying, "do whatever you want to do."
