The All India Congress Committee alleged that a Defence Research and Development Organisation official, recently arrested for alleged spying for Pakistan, has been "an RSS volunteer" for many years and that his family has been associated with the Sangh for four generations.

On Wednesday, the AICC played a purported YouTube interview of Pradeep Kurulkar, director of Research and Development Establishment (Engineers), a systems engineering laboratory of the DRDO, in which Kurulkar spoke at length about his and his family's links with the Sangh. Another video clipping, of a book release function, showed Kurulkar addressing a gathering with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat seated on the dais. Another photo showed Kurulkar praying before a Savarkar statue.

"DRDO's 'Pakistani spy' scientist and traitor Pradeep Kurulkar has close RSS links. Kurulkar's association with the RSS goes back generations, as he revealed in an interview with a YouTube channel last year," AICC spokesman Pawan Khera said at the official briefing. "His grandfather was an RSS volunteer, who worked as a mathematician and his father carried on his work for the Sangh. He was treasurer of the RSS branch in Pune. Kurulkar was a maths and science teacher and has been attending the shakha since the age of five. For him the branch was an integral part of his daily routine... This is a very serious matter, which exposes the anti-national face of BJP-RSS. This case is related to an RSS leader directly endangering India's national security."

Khera said PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah must clarify what the relationship between Kurulkar and RSS is. "Did Kurulkar, who had gone abroad many times, go for his own espionage for RSS or Pakistan. Is this part of the 'toolkit'? What is the toolkit of RSS-BJP in Anti-India activities?" Khera asked, and also sought an explanation from the Sangh.
