A domestic dispute turned deadly in Gurgaon’s Rajendra Park on Sunday evening when a 32-year-old man strangled his wife after she slapped him during a quarrel. The man later walked into a police post and confessed to the crime.

According to a TOI report, police said the incident occurred around 5:30 pm in B-block of Rajendra Park colony. Ketan Pathak, who works at the Noida International Airport construction site in Jewar, returned home to find his wife Jyoti, 27, allegedly beating their 5-year-old daughter.

When he intervened, the argument escalated quickly. According to investigators, Jyoti, who was agitated, slapped Ketan during the fight. Enraged, he punched her repeatedly and then strangled her using her dupatta.

Afterwards, he laid her body on the bed in their first-floor room and left the house to surrender.

Confession at police post

Around 6 pm, Ketan walked into the Anand Garden police chowki and told the constable on duty that he had killed his wife. Officers from the Rajendra Park police station were immediately dispatched to the house, where they found Jyoti unresponsive in the bedroom.

“A forensic team inspected the room and collected evidence. Jyoti’s body was taken for post-mortem examination,” said an officer involved in the investigation.

Police confirmed that no formal complaint has been lodged so far by any of Jyoti’s relatives. Her parents had died a few years ago, and she had distanced herself from her maternal family in Bindapur, southwest Delhi, after marrying Ketan six years ago against their wishes.

Frequent fights & family tensions

Neighbours said the couple often quarreled loudly and kept largely to themselves. “We could hear them shouting at each other every few days. They married after rebelling against their families. We only came to know about the murder when police arrived,” a neighbour told TOI.

At the time of the incident, Ketan’s father, Vinod Pathak, an ayurvedic practitioner who runs a clinic on the ground floor, was at home while his elder brother was away for work. The family originally hailed from Amritsar and had settled in Gurgaon about forty years ago.

Investigators said they are awaiting statements from Jyoti’s extended family to proceed further. Rajendra Park SHO Rajesh Kumar confirmed that Ketan remains in custody and a case will be registered soon if no complaint is filed.

“Ketan told us he acted in a fit of rage after being slapped. He strangled his wife using her dupatta. The matter is under investigation, and further legal action will follow,” the officer said.
