Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation news: Sonam Wangchuk says it's 'victory of democracy'

Reacting to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk hailed the development as a triumph of grassroots democratic action, crediting the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the country's Gen Z for the outcome.

"IT'S A VICTORY OF DEMOCRACY," Wangchuk posted on X shortly after news of the resignation broke, calling it a case of "direct democracy... straight from the streets."

He described the moment as the result of sustained, non-violent public pressure. "It's a victory of peace, patience & persévérance," Wangchuk wrote.


Extending his congratulations to the protesters, Wangchuk singled out CJP and young citizens across the country for their role in the movement. "Congratulations CJP, Gen Z of the nation and thank you all citizens for shedding fear and the fear of fear and rising up from every corner of the nation," he said.

Wangchuk added that the resignation should mark the beginning of a broader push, not the end of it. "FROM ACCOUNTABILITY, NOW TO REFORMS," he said.

CJP says two demands remain

Elsewhere, CJP founding president Abhijeet Dipke said the outfit's agitation was far from over, listing two fresh demands before the government.

"There's no need to be afraid. This is democracy. He has resigned, but we have two more demands. We won't go like this," Dipke said, addressing supporters gathered near the protest site.

Dipke said Pradhan's resignation had come through, but maintained it was not enough to end the standoff. "Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of the children who committed suicide should receive compensation of one crore rupees. They should get it. One crore rupees compensation to all those families," he said.

He also demanded action against police personnel he accused of using force during the protests. "And second, these police goons who acted on the 20th. Action must be taken against the police officers for that," Dipke said.

The CJP chief closed his remarks with a warning aimed squarely at the Centre. "Remember, do not mess with cockroaches," he said.

Reiterating the party's resolve, Dipke added, "We have two more demands, we will not go like that. We are cockroaches, once it enters it does not leave."

Asked about the possibility of a fresh round of talks with the government, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the party was awaiting a formal call from officials. "When they call us, then we will go. They will tell us the exact time," Das said
