DGGI cautioned taxpayers about fake summons
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a cautionary advisory to taxpayers regarding fake summons sent by fraudsters. Taxpayers are urged to verify the authenticity of any summons received by checking the official CBIC we...

It also asked taxpayers to inform the jurisdiction office immediately in case they receive such notices.
The advisory was issued after the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), an investigation arm of the CBIC noticed that some individuals are sending fake summons to the taxpayers who may or may not be under investigation by the DGGI.
These notices were sent with the intent to fraud.
"The fake summons that are being sent out might look real because they have a Document Identification Number (DIN), but these DIN numbers are not issued by DGGI in the case of these entities," the finance ministry said in a statement.
It advised that taxpayers can check the veracity of any communication from DGGI or CBIC by using the ‘VERIFY CBIC-DIN’ window on the CBIC’s website.
Taxpayers can also use the DIN Utility Search on online portal of Directorate of Data Management (DDM), CBIC.
It further suggested that Individual taxpayers who get summons from DGGI or CBIC formations that seem suspicious or possibly fake may immediately report them to concerned jurisdictional office also for verification, so that necessary action against those responsible for these fraudulent activities can be taken.
