Developed world should provide finance for biodiversity conservation: BRICS nations
New Delhi: Leaders of BRICS countries on Saturday urged developed nations to provide financial resources to the developing world for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

For this purpose, developed countries should also help in improving capacity building and development of technology, the leaders said in the New Delhi Declaration 2026.

"We underscore the importance of the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, of the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources," the declaration said.

It also highlighted the critical role of all types of forests, including boreal and tropical forests, for conserving biodiversity, water basins and soils.

The leaders said they encourage sharing best practices supporting sustainable forest management and restoration.

Moreover, they welcomed the adoption of two compendiums for Integrated Landscape-Based Greening and Land Restoration, and the Common Understanding for Wildfire Preparedness and Response across BRICS countries.

The first compendium brings together experiences, good practices and policy approaches from the BRICS member countries in addressing the interconnected challenges of land degradation, desertification, biodiversity loss and climate change.
