Residents across several areas in Delhi continue to face severe water shortages, forcing them to queue up at water tankers to meet their daily needs. Visuals from Okhla showed people crowding around tankers with cans and buckets. This scene has become a daily occurrence in many parts of the national capital, including Chanakyapuri's Sanjay Camp, Geeta Colony in East Delhi, Patel Nagar, Mehrauli, and Chhatarpur since the start of the summer season.

The water crisis in Delhi has sparked widespread protests, vandalism, and political confrontations across the city.

Delhi's Water Crisis: Pipeline Inspections Reveal No Leaks

As the water crisis deepens, police officials inspected the Jal Board pipelines in the Yamuna Khadar area of northeast Delhi on Sunday and confirmed there were no leaks. Assistant Sub-Inspector Lokendra Sirohi stated, "There is no leakage here. If there is any leakage, we will inform the Jal Board and our control room."

Delhi's Water Crisis: Minister Atishi's Urgent Call for Police Protection
Delhi Minister Atishi has written to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, urging the deployment of police personnel to protect major pipelines for the next 15 days. Atishi said, "The ground patrolling team found water supply pipelines were damaged in some places." She added that the patrol team discovered a major leak in the main pipeline from the Sonia Vihar treatment plant to south Delhi, where several large bolts had been cut, indicating possible sabotage.

The water crisis has sparked political confrontations, with Atishi accusing the BJP of conspiring to exacerbate the situation. "Delhi is currently facing severe heat. Even in this difficult time, the BJP has left no stone unturned to trouble the people of Delhi. The BJP is hatching a conspiracy against the people," she said during a press conference.

AAP MLAs have accused Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil of not intervening, while the BJP has held a 'matka-phod' protest against the Arvind Kejriwal government to highlight the water crisis. The Congress also held protests in Delhi's Krishna Nagar area, criticizing both the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP-led central government.

Atishi detailed the impact of the pipeline damage in her letter to the police commissioner. "This (the leak) was near the DTL substation in Garhi Medhu. Our patrolling team found that several large 375 mm bolts and one 12-inch bolt had been cut from the pipeline, causing leakage. The fact that several large bolts had been cut seems to indicate foul play and sabotage," she wrote. The team worked for six hours to repair the leak, but this led to a temporary halt in water pumping, exacerbating the water shortage in south Delhi.

Delhi's Water Crisis: BJP's Response
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva criticized Atishi's allegations, stating, "It is regrettable that instead of working to fix leaks in pipelines and check water theft, Atishi is trying to put the blame on BJP. Tomorrow, BJP workers will hold protests across the city in 52 places against Kejriwal government’s failure to check leaks and water theft."

BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor also commented on AAP MLAs' efforts to meet with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. "Hardly 8 MLAs turned up outside his house, forcing AAP to abandon its agitation," he said.

Atishi emphasized the need for immediate police protection to prevent further tampering with the pipelines. "I am writing to request the deployment of police personnel to patrol and protect our major pipelines for the next 15 days. This would be important for putting a stop to miscreants or people with ulterior motives from tampering with our water pipelines," she said.
