New Delhi: Monsoon rains continue to lash North India, triggering floods, traffic chaos, and river swelling across multiple states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

In Delhi-NCR, light but persistent rain on Saturday caused severe traffic snarls and waterlogging in several areas. The maximum temperature dropped to 26.4°C, marking the coldest August day in 14 years, according to IMD records. The Yamuna River is now flowing close to the danger mark following heavy discharge from the Hathnikund barrage.

In Uttar Pradesh, torrential rains have caused rivers including the Ganga and Saryu to swell dangerously. Chandauli, Mau, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, and Hapur districts have reported alarming water levels, prompting evacuation of low-lying areas. In Bihar, the Ganga and Boodhi Gandak rivers have overflowed, submerging villages in Khagaria and affecting 17 panchayats.

River levels in Varanasi, Ayodhya, and other UP cities are rising rapidly, while schools in Lucknow were ordered shut on Friday due to waterlogging and heavy rainfall.

With monsoon rains expected to continue, IMD has advised caution for residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as Delhi weather, Yamuna river levels, and North India monsoon impact remain key concerns this week.
