Delhi woke up to a cloudy sky on Friday morning, with the weather department predicting thunderstorms and light rain throughout the day. The city received light drizzle overnight, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.8°C, which is 1.8°C above the usual average for this time of year.

In the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am, Mayur Vihar recorded 5.0 mm of rainfall, while Pritampura received 1.0 mm. The primary weather station at Safdarjung reported only a trace of rain.

By 8.30 am, the relative humidity was at 68%, showing a moderate level of moisture in the air. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more thunderstorms and light rain for the rest of the day, with the maximum temperature expected to reach around 37°C.

The drizzle provided much-needed relief from the intense heatwave that had gripped the city in recent days. Just a few days ago, on Monday, Delhi recorded its first 40°C day of the season, marking the start of a heatwave that lasted for three consecutive days.

Wednesday night was particularly warm, with the minimum temperature staying at 25.9°C, the highest in three years. Despite the rain, the air quality remained moderate, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am measuring 172.
