Delhi continues to reel under cold day conditions on Friday and the
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for dense fog for January 9, Friday. Parts of Delhi witnessed early morning rain on Friday, adding to the bitter cold as the national capital continues to face an intense cold spell with nighttime temperatures dipping to around 5 degrees Celsius.
The weather office has also forecast a minimum temperature of around 6 degrees Celsius and a maximum of about 17 degrees Celsius for the day. On Friday early morning, the IMD said light to intermittent rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Delhi in areas such as Mundaka, Pashchim Vihar, Rajauri Garden, Budha Jayanti Park, President House, Rajeev chauk, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, Palam, IGI Airport, Preet Vihar, ITO, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, Nehru Stadium. As far as Noida is concerned, the IMD has predicted fog or mist during early morning hours with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 16 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively. In Gurugram, people can expect fog mist or in the morning and mainly clear sky later in the day. The maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 15 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius in Gurugram, respectively.
Air India issues advisory
Amid dense fog conditions, Air India issued a travel advisory today saying that reduced visibility due to fog in parts of northern India, including Delhi, may impact flight schedules across the network. Delhi Airport in an advisory said flight operations are running smoothly.

The weather agency has issued a yellow alert for Delhi today predicting dense fog during morning hours. The maximum temperature will be below normal by 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius. "The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 16°C to 18°C and 5°C to 7°C, respectively," IMD said. For January 10, the IMD has predicted mainly clear skies for Delhi with shallow to moderate fog during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 16°C to 18°C and 06°C to 08°C, respectively, the forecast read.

Delhi AQI update
A thick layer of smog also covered several areas, while air quality remained in the 'poor' to 'very poor' category across Delhi, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
CPCB readings showed that Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 280, which falls under the 'poor' category.
Several areas witnessed a sharp decline in air quality. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 385, placing it in the 'very poor' category. Other locations with high AQI levels included Chandni Chowk at 335, Jahangirpuri at 340, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 354, ITO at 307, Ferozeshah Road at 307, Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range at 360, Dwarka Sector 8 at 346, Ashok Vihar at 328 and Nehru Nagar at 392.
Some parts of the city recorded relatively better air quality. IGI Airport Terminal 3 reported an AQI of 252, which still falls under the 'poor' category, according to CPCB.
Dense fog in Bihar, Sikkim
The IMD has predicted dense fog conditions for early morning hours over northwest India and Bihar for the next five to seven days and also over isolated parts of central India, northeast India and SubHimalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next two to three days. Cold day conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during the next one to three days. Cold wave conditions are also very likely to occur in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and North Interior Karnataka over the next two to three days.
