Future plans include the addition of hotels and more exhibition halls, with the aim of positioning Delhi as a prominent destination for meetings, conferences, and exhibitions. The center's inclusive design will also allow for music concerts and other events.
Just few days after the G20 Summit at Pragati Maidan, Delhi will have another major convention and exhibition hub - the India International Convention & Expo Centre in Dwarka.

As per a TOI report, scheduled for its inauguration on September 17, coinciding with the launch of PM-Vikas (Vishwakarma Scheme) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this sprawling facility is poised to host its first event, a mobile industry gathering, in early October.

The convention center, spanning an impressive 5,070 square meters, equivalent to about 70 per cent of a football field, will accommodate up to 6,000 attendees. The initial phase features two exhibition halls and a parking area that can accommodate 3,000 cars. This ambitious project has been in development for over a decade.

Details on the IICC website reveal that the two halls will provide around 54,000 square meters of leasable space, ideal for approximately 1,800 exhibition booths. Additionally, outdoor spaces will be available, enhancing the venue's versatility. Notably, a dedicated metro station connecting to the airport and hotels in Aerocity and Dwarka will serve the facility.

The subsequent phase of development includes plans for hotels within the complex, offering around 3,500 rooms. Moreover, the expansion envisions the addition of more halls, transforming the venue into one of the country's largest indoor exhibition areas, covering nearly 3 lakh square meters. Though the specifics of the second phase's commencement are pending, the initial focus will be on constructing the hotels.

Given its strategic proximity to the airport, the IICC is poised to attract a plethora of events, aligning with the government's vision to position Delhi as a prominent MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. Alongside the annual India International Trade Fair, upcoming months are expected to witness a slew of events showcasing local products and the innovative "one-district, one-product" initiative.

Moreover, the convention center's inclusive design, featuring shopping and entertainment zones, is primed to host diverse events, including music concerts and more.

The core aim of this initiative is twofold: alleviate urban congestion and offer exhibitors and event organizers. While smaller venues like the Expo Centre in Greater Noida remain viable options, the IICC's strategic location and comprehensive amenities are anticipated to establish it as a premier choice for hosting various events.
