The NDMC has already doubled parking charges in Lutyens' Delhi from October 22. The proposal to extend this increase to other parts of the city is still pending approval. A senior NDMC official stated, "In keeping Delhi's rising pollution in mind, the NDMC has decided to double its parking charges to encourage people to travel by public transportation."
Delhi New Parking Rates
Currently, for surface parking, cars are charged ₹20 per hour or ₹100 for the entire day, while two-wheelers are charged ₹10 per hour. In multilevel parking areas, the rate is ₹10 for cars and ₹5 for two-wheelers for the first four hours. All these parking rates will now get doubled until the revocation of stage 2 of Grap II measures in Delhi. The NDMC controls about 96 percent of public parking spaces in the city.The proposed increase is awaiting approval from the state assembly. The government has already taken actions such as banning coal and firewood use and restricting diesel generator sets for emergency and essential services to tackle the worsening air quality in Delhi.
