Delhi continues to experience milder-than-expected winter conditions this December, with the much-anticipated intense cold still nowhere in sight. Meteorologists had earlier predicted a harsh winter season, but so far, the capital has recorded only moderate chill.

Temperature Update

The minimum temperature in Delhi remains steady at around 9°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to hover near 24°C. These readings are higher than what is usually expected at this point in December, offering residents slightly warmer days and relatively comfortable nights.

Fog Spreads Across NCR

Despite the subdued winter chill, dense fog blanketed several parts of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad on Thursday morning, reducing visibility and affecting traffic movement. The early morning fog layer disrupted road conditions, prompting commuters to proceed with caution.

IMD Issues Fog and Cold Wave Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for dense fog across Delhi and adjoining regions. The forecast extends to parts of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, where a combination of cold wave conditions and thick fog is expected in the coming days.

What to Expect Next

While Delhi has not yet encountered the sharp drop in temperatures typical of mid-December, weather experts suggest that conditions could shift quickly as cold winds intensify from the north. Residents are advised to stay updated with daily forecasts, especially those commuting early in the morning when fog is at its peak.

Delhi AQI Today

The national capital woke up to heavy toxic smog on Friday, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 329 at 7 am, placing it in the “very poor” category, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

While there had been slight improvement over the past few weeks, much of Delhi was still shrouded in thick, harmful haze. Dense smog was reported in areas like Ghazipur and Anand Vihar, where visibility remained extremely low. According to CPCB readings, several neighbourhoods across the city continued to show air quality levels in the “very poor” range.
