Delhi schools to resume physical classes from January 15 with changed timings

The Directorate of Education under the Delhi government has announced the resumption of physical classes for all students in government, government-aided, and recognized private schools. "Effective from January 15, 2024 (Monday), this directive applies to students across all levels, including Nursery, KG, and Primary classes," read the notification.

While encouraging the return to in-person learning, the Directorate of Education has also taken precautionary measures considering the prevailing foggy conditions in the region. According to the directive, no school, including double-shift schools, will commence classes before 9 am. Additionally, schools are instructed not to extend their classes beyond 5 pm until further directions are provided.

As schools prepare to welcome students back to physical classrooms, it is anticipated that these measures will contribute to a smooth transition while prioritizing the health and safety of the educational community.


Delhi has been grappling with severe cold conditions. On Sunday, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius – the lowest this winter.

Thick fog has enveloped various parts of the city, adding to the challenges faced by residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that this temperature is four notches below the season's average, indicating an intensified winter chill. As the region navigates these stringent anti-pollution measures and weather conditions, the focus remains on safeguarding public health and improving air quality.
