Delhi schools to reopen from September 1 in phased manner

Delhi schools will be reopening in a phased manner from Sep 1, 2021. This decision has come from the DDMA (Delhi Disaster Management Authority) after the national capital has seen a consecutive dip in Covid-19 cases.

"In view of decreasing COVID cases, schools are being slowly reopened in Delhi with complete precautions, so that the learning loss for students can be reduced. We have to bring back life on track and take care of studies as well as health of students," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

Schools will open on September 1, for classes 9-12. Whereas, for students in classes 6-8, schools will reopen a week later, on September 8.


Parents have been divided over this decision in the fear of the third wave striking. The third wave has been predicted to affect children more harshly than before.

With no vaccination for children and schools reopening, parents are concerned over their children getting infected.

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia has assured parents and said that attending school offline isn't compulsory. He has also said that no student can be forced to come to school, besides that, parents' consent is necessary for a student to be able to attend.

While Sisodia said no final decision has been taken regarding junior classes and a call will be taken after analysing the effect of reopening schools for senior classes, sources indicated that schools for classes 6 to 8 may reopen from September 8.

Some parents find it to be a relief as students can go back to school and have a semblance of normalcy again.

Teaching, learning will continue to be in blended mode in schools, colleges that reopen in Delhi, he added.
